Voice-over

A voice-over is narration laid over picture rather than spoken on camera. It carries the argument of an explainer, an ad or a documentary while the footage illustrates it.

Because it is recorded separately, it is the part of a video most easily revised — a script change is a re-record, not a reshoot. That makes it the natural place to iterate.

Writing for it is its own craft: short sentences, one idea per breath, and punctuation that tells the reader where to pause.

On eroq

The voice studio renders an MP3 from your script on eroq Voice One (3 credits per 100 characters) or eroq Voice Turbo (2), in a roster voice or one you have cloned. Lay it under the picture on the Editor's timeline, where it is trimmed and moved like any sound.

Questions

What does a minute of narration cost?

A minute of speech is roughly 900 characters, so about 27 credits on eroq Voice One and 18 on eroq Voice Turbo. You are billed on the text you send, not on the audio length.

Can I direct the performance?

Yes — with punctuation, the speed and expressiveness controls, and on eroq Voice One short tags in square brackets such as [whispering], [excited] or [laughing], which the voice performs instead of reading. There is no SSML to write.

Can the voice-over sync to the video automatically?

No. eroq returns the audio and the video separately, and aligning them is an edit: you make it on the Editor's timeline, by dragging the line where it belongs, or in your own tool.
