Anamorphic lens

An anamorphic lens squeezes a wide image onto the sensor and is unsqueezed in post, producing the cinematic signature of oval bokeh, horizontal lens flares and a gentle widescreen stretch.

In generated video it is a prompted look; engines render the flares and bokeh convincingly on night scenes with point lights.

Questions

When should I use an anamorphic look?

Night exteriors with neon or headlights — the flares and oval bokeh do the work.

Does the anamorphic preset change the aspect ratio?

No — it is a look folded into the prompt, not a real optical squeeze. The frame still comes from the aspect ratio you pick, so pair the lens with 21:9 or 16:9 when you want the widescreen shape too.

What is the difference between Anamorphic and Vintage anamorphic?

Anamorphic asks for the clean modern signature — oval bokeh, horizontal flares, a gentle squeeze. Vintage anamorphic adds softness, heavier flares and older-glass distortion, which reads as period rather than premium.
